Thank you to Peninsula members who were able to make it to last Thursday’s meeting! The weather is getting colder, but our passion for the club remains hot. We appreciate your continued support! Here’s a sampling of what happened at the meeting:
1. Jaime took on the role of Toastmaster and did a great job of transitioning between the functionaries. Stage time is important for all speakers. Being a Meeting Toastmaster is a great way to log more time in front of the audience without the extensive preparation of writing a speech.
2. Instead of Table Topics, Ed changed things up and set up an interesting debate between two teams. The question was whether social media is a good thing or a bad thing. Lita, Loni, and Eugenia were on the side of Steve Jobs, while Arnold, August, and Platon championed the side of the Luddites. Both sides made good points and the audience came away with a fuller understanding of the issue.
3. Julie gave a heart-warming speech about friendship. Whether it’s the pretty drunk girl or the 3-song repertoire guitar player, we can learn a lot about ourselves from the character of our friends.
4. Timothy spoke about his pet dog in an entertaining speech that really humanized his animal. The speech had a bit of everything, physicality, vocal variety, props, humor, and an emotional roller coaster ride. Bravo to Timothy for his maestro-like performance.
Finally, a big Thank you goes out to all the members who renewed with the club. People come and go, but this club continues to thrive thanks to you.
We hope to see you all on October 20th. It will be a Halloween-themed potluck meeting. Bring your speech and your costume!
